South London Botanical Institute, London

The South London Botanical Institute was quite possibly our favourite 'garden' from the Open Garden Squares weekend. Although not technically just a garden, it is also home to a Botanical Library and Herbarium and you can sense the history as you walk through the building. The Botanical Institute, in Tulse Hill, was founded in 1910 and today holds a number of different workshops, lectures and special events.

Our favourite part was entering the garden paradise through the small conservatory at the back. You enter a jungle of green and feel transported into a different place, it might have helped that it was also about 30 degrees that weekend! We wandered through the different beds featuring a medicinal border and other areas featuring plants from across the globe.
